Recording of "Colour My World" from "Priscilla": Feedback please :)
Hi singers!

I did a very quick recording of "Colour My World" from the show "Priscilla". I know the piano and I arent always in sync Wink But besides that, what about my voice? Is there any sign of mix?

Regards
Christian

I don't see any sign of mix. I barely know anything technically. New to all this technical stuff. I do have good taste though. That was a no. Hope I use the right term here? Perhaps it sounded falsetto? Didn't like it.

Mastering Mix Questions
I've recently gotten a hold of mastering mix, and i have no idea how to use it o: I have done the chest, head, pharyngeal and edge exercises and am moving forward to the mix workouts.

These are my questions and i hope anyone out here will be able to help me out, very grateful for insights given! :

1) should i do the chest, head, pharyngeal and edge exercises together again? and if so should they be done apart in different days?

2)what about the mix workout? do i mix it with all the other exercises?

3)should i just advance to the each exercises and leaving the old exercises behind?

4)How long should i do these exercises? Can i do all of them in one day?

5)Are there any levels of advancement in each successive exercise which causes you to abandon the more beginner's exercises? If so please help me to understand Mad

6) Should i stop singing altogether and just focus on building my voice first with these exercises?

7) Has anyone personally have good vocal developments from this mastering mix program?

8) How do you know when you have improved?

Thanks for stopping by! (=
Woaah those are many questions you have there!!

1,2,3,4,5 : The first time you go around the program my opinion is to stay about a week in each cd so it has time to kick in. I don't know how often you practice but if you want to develop fast I'd say practice 6 days a week. Go through the whole cd from the first exercise to the last and with that order. Don't skip unless Brett says something of the sort. If you want to do more than one work out a day, have at least an hour break between them (3 hours is better). If you do two work outs a day the second one can be a different cd. Once you are done with the program you can start doing it again changing cd's every day depending on what you want. Sorry if I didn't answer all of your questions, I admit I don't fully understand all of them.

6: Don't stop singing. Just be careful not to push you voice while you sing. Singing songs will help your progress as long as you don't hurt your voice.

7: Yes, I have seen incredible changes. Exercises I could never do, now seem like a piece of cake. Plus, my singing is nothing like it used to be. But I should say, I've been having classes too with BMA and I have gone through singing success as well. Trust the program, it really does work. It needs patience and persistence and believing. If you put your time and energy in it, there is no other road than improvement.

8: You will know. There are lots of ways in which you can improve. You won't go straight to the top, there are lots of steps in between. Give credit to yourself every time you achieve something new. Signs of improvement are more relaxed singing, stronger voice, lower/higher notes, better tone quality, finding vibrato and a million other things you'll discover by yourself down the road.

Good Luck!
xteaun, i'm glad i'm not the only one that's curious about how MM works xD

tinutsi, thanks for answering my questions cuz i know there are so many! Laughing So if i'm doing each cd per week, would that mean it'll take around 3 months for me to discover everything about the program?? I've heard from my other friend in the ss forum here that i'm lacking in my edge, so i guess i'll work on that CD first (= I'm glad that the BMA's really do live up to their reputations, seeing as you improved from them ^_^ Again, Thank you!

Help please: Hardly any improvement / Stuck "on the bridge"
Hey there!

I have been using the Singing Success programme for months now and there has been hardly any improvement on my number one issue: range. I'm still stuck at F sharp / G above middle C in full voice while I can do the lip rolls up to E above the mens' high C...

There must be SOMETHING that I am doing wrong. Brett keeps saying that too much weight kills high notes. So I have been trying to use as little pressure as possible. Yet at a certain point my digastric muscle kicks in.

Also, I have a very strong and clear head voice and have the feeling that I may be doing all the mix exercises wrong. Is it possible that I sing in chest voice up to my bridge and then change into head voice without any mix whatsoever and therefore I dont really practice the mix??

I am somewhat frustrated. Please help Smile

Regards
Christian
This is an extremely common thing people post on here.

Why can't you go past F# above middle C? Because you can't in full voice, don't even try it, it will strain the hell out of your chords.

There are three vocal ranges, the chest, the mix and the head as you know. You are supposed to use your mix voice for around the E to G range (Well I do personally) and Head voice for the rest above that.

The reason your lip rolls reach higher is because you're doing your lip rolls correctly! And they're transitioning into mixed and head voice without you even realising.

For me, personally the mix was hard to grasp because it felt like head voice, but it's really not. What I did to smooth out the connection from say... F below middle C to high C was I'd sing along to lots of songs and use a lot of mixed/head voice for notes as low as middle C and even B sometimes. The exercises that helped me most were on the MM which was 'Gee' in head voice, also the pharyngeal exercises and of course the 'Nay's' to help keep the tone.

Don't be worried if it sounds really silly at first, but never neglect the mix, it's so important especially for those softer songs where its really hard to pull the chest up clearly.
Thanks, Cameron!

How to delete my account
Hi,

I want to delete my account (actually I have to, for my own reasons). I was wondering how to go about this. If it's not possible to do it myself, I would like to ask a moderator or forum administrator to do it for me.

Many thanks

Recording of Les Mis in German: Feedback please! :)
Hi people!

I just recorded two versions of "Stars" from Les Miserables at home. What do you think?

Regards
Chris

I don't mean to ramble on. You're good enough. I think you deserve feedback. I think you have "the right stuff". You can make it professionally as a singer. You're so good. I think you should be working with a really good coach. I doubt anyone has gotten really good without coaching.

You have motivated me to spend time looking back at stuff from Les Miserables. Looking at good recordings of different people doing different songs. I have to admit. I'm impressed. They all give it their all. Yes, a little different. Kudos to them all.

Again...I wish you the best.
Sorry, I changed the properties of the soundcloud files, so they stopped working:

Strong Falsetto or Very Pharyngal Mix Voice?
Hi everybody,

I have been working my way through the Singing Success Program trying my best to do the exercises as instructed. No matter what exercise I'm doing, it always seems to have a definite flip. I do not have the light, breathy sound of falsetto, yet my voice does not have any fullness to it. Despite practicing with the mums exercises and the light heady ee's, I can't seem to eliminate it, only mask it enough to get through my bridge. My question is, am I doing the exercises right? I'm beginning to think I have simply gotten very good at hiding my falsetto.

Thank you,

Another Musical Theater Kid
With compression excercises i mean like a "Buh" (as in book)or a "Guh" or "Go". Also the "swallowing excercise" where you close the chords by making a swallowing sound. Its on the edge cd (cd 4) on MM. If you dont have any explanation how to make this sound I wouldnt recommend doing it, cause its one of the most abusive ones if done incorrectly.

Also adding to my first post, finding the "pocket", building the strength of the chords, and doing a lot of slides helps a lot to produce a smoother connection between registers.
Hey Micah!

I have the same problem. Have you found out anything new?

High Notes / Do you feel your larynx?
When I do some of the higher exercises from Singing Success, I get this strange feeling in my throat, near the larynx. It doesnt hurt but it feels almost like a yawn that has gotten to big. Am I doing something wrong?
same prob here ....it's not like I'm reaching and it's painful ....I'm doing my lip rolls free and I don't feel any pushing or reaching at all ......but my voice still gets tired though ....
I'm not sure what you mean by high notes, but going past my first bridge and up to my second bridge, i feel no STRAIN at all. I can feel a little pressure but it does not tire me out. I'm not belting anything, just singing in a pretty light mix.

Bending technique / Afraid to get higher
so guys ....the other I was doing the exercises from Lesson 3 SS ......I was pretty warmed up ..and ..I came to the lip rolls .....and I hit 1 tone below male high E (E above male high C) ..without any bad tension or queeze ...and I was so surprised cause it the past I was doing exercises the wrong way ...pushing, straining, killing my voice ...and I sometimes ...most of the times reach high E too ......but I was do it it wrong ....so about two or 3 months ago..I decided to start SS all over again with the right technique ......and it's working ...but since then ...I've been aware that my top pitch is only high C ......and yesterday when I hit that note .....I'm just confused caused I don't want to wreck my voice again .....so question is pretty easy I guess .....how to extend your range without pushing ....I know Bratt says with bending technique ....but everytime I'm force to do that technique.cause my voice starts to feel a little tight ....I think like I'm abusing my voice ..don't know why ....not the physical but mental feeling that this isn't what voice want .....I don't know guys I'm just confused and so scared cause I just don't want to damage my voice again ..but I want to go higher than high E ....pls help ........:/
If you can do the lip rolls, you should be able to hit the note

Just make sure you dont feel any tightness that makes you tired
Remember, thinner as you go higher. If you go into falsetto (despite being able to reach it in lip roll), train your edge techniques.

Why does Jesse not give any private lessons anymore?
I just found out that Jesse doesnt give private lessons anymore...why?!?!? Sad
I believe he's working on a solo project, something about recording artists or something.
