Why are the demos of Mastering Mix so airy???
Hi together,

my question is in the topic! Do you have any ideas?
Thank you!
in which particular cd are you reffering to? They aren't airy. Sometimes it's confusing because they use a really light coordination but no airy. The sound is really small and soft but the vocal cords have a nice closure.

Buulding power into the voice
Hey there guys,

i need a little advice and a point in the right direction, i've been using SS for a while now and i can sing through my mix (not perfect) and into head and everything but it sounds so quiet and weak and hardly a singing voice. But this way is correct because there is no tension. Can anyone tell me how to build power into it so it sounds like heavy pulled up chest but in my (the same tone and power I'm on about) I'm sure you know what i mean.
Thanks in advance!!
The power in head voice as I have said in many other threads, comes from the Goo exercises. Anything that has a G in front is great or a B (like Buh, Bwoop like a drop of water). I am describing it in more detail here: http://www.singingsuccess.tv/forums/general-discussion/9055/

Mix: personally power in mix started coming slowly with the Mums mostly and the Neys. But my power became consistent and trustworthy only when I discovered the edge exercises. My vocal cords hadn't discovered the trully relaxed coordination they must have. But with the edge exercises they found that and they became stronger too. So now my mix doesn't feel like a diferent voice, but it connects with the rest of the voice and I can make it as loud as I want.

You will find power and you will find everything else as well! It's the only natural outcome when you exercise and work your voice. So don't worry! Smile I hope this helps!!
Thankyou! Also one more thing, Brett always says "its better to use a light right co-ordination then a strong and wrong", i often find that when i try to go louder i put more force to make the sound louder and it ends up wrong. Even though its quiet and weak with light and right, i should stick with this anyway? thanks

Singing similar to Talking
I think I hit a breakthrough...

I just realized when I was singing R+B(Neyo, because of you), my voice would change to a kind of high, whisper, light voice. I have a generally deep voice when I talk.

That's when I realized, this is taking too much effort to sing, then I started talking out the lyrics and then start adding a little singing, but not going high with my larynx (trying to match Neyo's higher voice) and I noticed it was easier.

Should singing feel like I'm talking but actually sound like music?
Yes! Singing shouldn't feel much different from talking. The only difference is that you speak the words slower and that singing uses more range. But to use that range it doesn't mean that you suddenly must change something in your throat because you are now "singing". Singing should feel as relaxed as talking and when you want to make something louder you just exhale faster air (not push your cords). Plus, taking singing closer to your talking voice means you can connect easier with your audience!

Should I get Mastering Mix
Hey all

So I brought the standard SS programme just after Christmas and have almost finished the technique lessons. I've found that my mix is the area I struggle with most in general and want to develop a stronger mix voice and as I sing alot of Musical Theatre the songs often call for it. So should I get MM or just stick with the standard SS for now? also what are peoples experience with the programme?

Thanks
You should definately buy the MM. When you finish it you can start mixing MM and SS together. MM dosn't mean you'll never do SS again. It means you have more tools to work with.
Personally, in SS I got all the basics down and it gave me an understanding of the voice and a way of thinking. Singing became easier. It gave me the foundation which I needed for MM. But MM is where my voice changed dramatically. On the first cd's it focuses on each part of the voice separately. When you figure out the first 5 cd's it will open a new world for your singing! Smile

Skype Lessons- a couple of questions
Hi guys

I'm considering a skype lesson with a SS coach but I was just wondering how does the skype lesson system work? Do you schedule your lesson and pay etc and they send you the skype name to add or does it work differently?

also what are people's experiences like with skype lessons? are they effective and would you recommend them?

Thanks
It was nothing about the exercises he had, we did exercises that helped to get into the mix, so that works ofcourse, eaven if it take some times to get it, i know that, i never giving up. But he was just rude and impolite, he was talking for 10 min about that he didnt think he had any lesson that day, and he was not intrested when i told him about me. Its reel important that the teacher is intrested in the person he want to teach, then you get motivated yourself, one teacher can take away all your motivation to sing if he is like that. So im not gonna have him anymore anyway. It doesnt matter if he had a bad day, i payed much money for him. Maybe i take Shelby or jason next time, they seems to have a good personality. Thats the most important thing, for me anyway.
I'm thinking of taking a skype lesson with Shelby, I have TMJ and so does she. My only thing is I sing soprano all head voice I'm not interested in the mix. Do you think she will be able to help me.Confused

Humming Exercises
I've noticed that I feel more vibrations coming from my throat when I do it. But when I switched to more emphasis in the mouth, I could feel more vibrations in my face area and less in my throat?

Am I doing it right? Should I be feeling humming only in the mouth area and very little in the throat?
What about singing? Should I be feeling it the root of the nose instead of in the mouth?
Good question Razz
In singing you should find the balance between nose and mouth. Mouth is a resonator too but we tend to over use it. That's why we get stuck in chest voice and we start to pull when trying to get higher. So we start doing exercises that block the mouth as a resonator (like Humming or Ng) so we start getting used to the feeling of resonance in the root of the nose. But slowly we start putting the mouth back in the exercises because we have to use it while singing. As I said, you have to use both.
Shelby explains it really well:

Mastering Mix Questions
I've recently gotten a hold of mastering mix, and i have no idea how to use it o: I have done the chest, head, pharyngeal and edge exercises and am moving forward to the mix workouts.

These are my questions and i hope anyone out here will be able to help me out, very grateful for insights given! :

1) should i do the chest, head, pharyngeal and edge exercises together again? and if so should they be done apart in different days?

2)what about the mix workout? do i mix it with all the other exercises?

3)should i just advance to the each exercises and leaving the old exercises behind?

4)How long should i do these exercises? Can i do all of them in one day?

5)Are there any levels of advancement in each successive exercise which causes you to abandon the more beginner's exercises? If so please help me to understand Mad

6) Should i stop singing altogether and just focus on building my voice first with these exercises?

7) Has anyone personally have good vocal developments from this mastering mix program?

8) How do you know when you have improved?

Thanks for stopping by! (=
Woaah those are many questions you have there!!

1,2,3,4,5 : The first time you go around the program my opinion is to stay about a week in each cd so it has time to kick in. I don't know how often you practice but if you want to develop fast I'd say practice 6 days a week. Go through the whole cd from the first exercise to the last and with that order. Don't skip unless Brett says something of the sort. If you want to do more than one work out a day, have at least an hour break between them (3 hours is better). If you do two work outs a day the second one can be a different cd. Once you are done with the program you can start doing it again changing cd's every day depending on what you want. Sorry if I didn't answer all of your questions, I admit I don't fully understand all of them.

6: Don't stop singing. Just be careful not to push you voice while you sing. Singing songs will help your progress as long as you don't hurt your voice.

7: Yes, I have seen incredible changes. Exercises I could never do, now seem like a piece of cake. Plus, my singing is nothing like it used to be. But I should say, I've been having classes too with BMA and I have gone through singing success as well. Trust the program, it really does work. It needs patience and persistence and believing. If you put your time and energy in it, there is no other road than improvement.

8: You will know. There are lots of ways in which you can improve. You won't go straight to the top, there are lots of steps in between. Give credit to yourself every time you achieve something new. Signs of improvement are more relaxed singing, stronger voice, lower/higher notes, better tone quality, finding vibrato and a million other things you'll discover by yourself down the road.

Good Luck!
xteaun, i'm glad i'm not the only one that's curious about how MM works xD

tinutsi, thanks for answering my questions cuz i know there are so many! Laughing So if i'm doing each cd per week, would that mean it'll take around 3 months for me to discover everything about the program?? I've heard from my other friend in the ss forum here that i'm lacking in my edge, so i guess i'll work on that CD first (= I'm glad that the BMA's really do live up to their reputations, seeing as you improved from them ^_^ Again, Thank you!

Difference between sore and working out voice
How do I know what a worked out voice is meant to feel like vs an wrongly worked sore voice?
If your voice feels tired man. You aren't doing anything wrong. It might get uncomfortable when it is tired. If there is physical pain. You should probably stop for the day
Some of my best breakthroughs left my voice extremely swollen and "stretched" out after.
(I study SS technique along with similar techniques)
thank you.

I just realized that 2 years ago when I bought SS program, i strained everything. These BLOGS have set me free from tension and incorrect tech Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Mix
Can someone please explain to everyone an myself how it should feel when singing mix. I'm sure u understand how confusing it is for us to not pull up heat voice and rely on resonance. But then we hear people belting and it just confuses us more. We want to know how the whole body should feel in detail! I know this site had the best on it. And now we need you. The only thing I've gotten from another singing forum site is it should feel "like your using the restroom." if u catch my drift.
what do you suggest? working on my upper chest voice? I need to start developing my mix and without the funds to book a lesson im looking for alternative methods.

and what about the rest of your body when youre in mix? like rock mix i mean (because I sing rock) how does your abdomen and chest feel?
I suggest that while you do mix exercises try not to think where your bridge is and then switch. Try let pressure off with each added note.
The body just pushes air a bit faster if you want that rock mix. I'm really not the one to talk about the abdomen feeling because to be honest I struggle with some breathing issues. I always pressure it a bit more than I need to so I don't know exactly the right feeling. I'm sorry..
