Quick Fix for Mucus and Phlegm
Could you guys tell me some quick fixes for Mucus and Phlegm in throat?
I have been having this problem for over a week now. It irritates me.
Also, try eating an apple. The PH in apples are the same in people. The phlegm will stick to the apple and it should help get ride of it. Also, don't clear your throat. The more you clear the more your body will create. You could also be having allergies, maybe if you've changed something in your diet.
Thanks. That Apple Thing Really worked

A breakthrough which may help you!
I've recently made a breakthrough, and I thought I'd post about it for you guys having some issues with your singing!

I've been working with singing success for about 4 years.

What I've discovered recently is that I've been changing the shape of the inside of my mouth while going through my mixed voice, resulting in pushing my chest and straining all parts of the voice.
To fix this, RELAXATION is so important. Just relax your mouth (keep it just the way you have it when you're singing notes that are easy for you to sing). This was one of my worst habits.

Also, when you're working on the lessons, remember light and right at all times! Light and right means easy and relaxed, instead of pushing.

Allowing the voice to go from chest to mix, and from mix to head voice is not easy at first. But relaxation is truly the best answer! If you're still having a lot of troubles with an exercise, re-listen to the track explaining how to do the exercise.

I hope this helps anyone who's having troubles.
Chrystal
Relaxation is everything. If you're not relaxed and supporting your sound, you're going to have tension and you're going to strain. Good job on your breakthrough! Smile
Thanks so much! Very Happy

Resonance issues
So, a while ago I posted a clip of myself singing, and lovely LL pointed out that I sang from my mouth only, even for the high notes.

I've been experimenting a lot since then, and I'm starting to feel resonance in my head too.

I was wondering: when the resonance goes from the chest (mouth) to head... is it supposed to go through the nose, or is it supposed to go up through the soft palate?

Resonance has been my biggest issue the whole time, and now that I've figured it out, I hope to terminate the issue.

Thanks,
Chrystal
Hi ok, sorry for crashing the thread, but I'm uploading an audio in the general discussion where I'd like some guidance on this same issue you're talking about. If you don't mind commenting that'd be great. Thanks.
VascoShott, don't say that! Thanks a lot for answering, it's much appreciated Smile

And thanks to you, LL! Without you, I wouldn't be any further than I was 3 years ago.

ok my original song...

It's super heady.. I know, but i'm questioning if i should take it down a key?? comments and positive criticism wanted Wink
to you as well! Smile
It's a good idea sales, the other way to do it is to have an 'easy' version of the song in the same key by either making the high bits more heady or altering the melody a little. This would be for the bad days, either way your right it's nice to have options when you are going on stage because it means you can adjust to however you are feeling that day.

More breaks than ever?
I've listened to the CDs and got stuck at lip rolls because I always run out of breath.
I'm not practicing now cos' i have my national examinations this year.

But however, I've come to find out that lately my voice is becoming worse. My chest voice seems like it has a small range now and to go high I would go straight into head voice. The breaks are much obvious and it's hard for me to sustain notes as I keep getting breaks when i go close to my breaking point.
I'm not going through the first stage of puberty or something, I'm 16 already and shot up years ago.

so its not that.

HELP?..

Note: I think it's called head voice because it's the high notes and sound opera like.
No, I'm saying that you need to find your head voice, because if you don't find your head voice instead of using falsetto, the chest voice has nothing to mix with, making it so that you either pull up chest or flip into falsetto (which both tire out the voice eventually).

For the lip rolls, make sure you're relaxed. And I mean completely relaxed. Focus on your lips- they should take off the tension. Keep the same amount of effort from the low notes to the high notes. And for the high notes, bending over at the waist helps a bunch!
OK.. so you're saying as I do the practices I will be able to find a connection and get to my head voice??
wait, so when I practice high notes I would be singing in falsetto because I don't know my head voice.

Singing light WITH cord closure!
Hey guys, a baritone here, and I've been trying to do everything light and right for a while now, but as soon as i get to the first bridge, my cords lose compression (even with nasal nays, heady GOs, mums, etc). I can stay connected when I stay really quiet, but I know for a fact that I don't have the pingy, ringing vocal closure up there. Vocal fry helps a little but I feel like I'm getting too little a progress here. Any advice? Should I strengthen my head voice more with Mastering Mix CD2? I can't seem to do MM CD4 very well past exercise 2 because of lack of cord closure..
Hello lilsekki!

I've recently had this same problem. The actual issue was that I was too focused on Mastering Mix, rather than being focused on the voice as a whole. As a result, I went back to Singing Success CD 3, got the actual technique for my voice together by singing light and right all the way through- kinda like completely starting over. The amount of vocal freedom I've now regained is one of the biggest breakthroughs I've had.

Sometimes, all you have to do is go back to the basics and let your voice re-learn the technique. I hope this helps!

Yet another frustrating singing obstacle...
I've recently found out that one of my biggest, worst habits is trying to go into head voice too soon, without really connecting with the mixed voice. It feels as though I'm completely lacking connection. It's times like this that I really wish I had a coach...

Does anyone have ideas for what CDs to focus on for connection?

Thanks, Chrystal
I recently had the same problem connecting within scales at high c for males. But you know what? I have just done a short break and solved the problem with some ideas.

That´s my point: get to know your weaknesses and strenghts. In fact, get to know your voice, practice with your voice, and try to analyse. Otherwise you´ll rely on the CD´s without knowing why you doing this and that.

If you have problems connecting with liprolls in scale as I had then do a slide from bottom to top a few times - or - if you have problems with a vowel (since there are different vowel placements) then use a consonant like "g" or "w" as a connector - you also can add an additional vowel that´s easy for you as a second connector.

Just wanted to give you some ideas Very Happy
Hope this helped though

God Bless
I believe that the change in musculature will always be fairly consistent, although you could be thinning your cords all at once as you bridge, as opposed to slowly dropping the weight as you ascend in to head. But, learning to sing consistently from a pharyngeal pocket will help offset this a lot. It inhibits you from dropping too much weight, because it increases your power (you will get kind of hooked on really letting your voice ring out), and at the same time it blends chest and head resonance beautifully. In my opinion, this might be an early sign that you are not belting as you once were, so go with it and find a way to fill out your pharyngeal resonance.

My biggest strength and weakness in singing
I think I just figured out my main problem. My singing tends to reflect how I'm currently feeling. It has been my biggest strength, but now it seems to be my biggest weakness.

For example, I've been feeling very "blah" lately and have been trying to perform upbeat songs while I'm feeling rather depressed.

This problem is also what seems to be holding me back when I try to record. I find myself being so concerned about the recording, my intonation, and awkwardness of recording that I can't really escape into the song.

How do I handle these situations? Thanks.
I don't record (yet,) but I feel the same way you do as well; I have to be able to pour myself into a song emotionally, and when I'm down, it becomes hard to put that negative energy into an upbeat song. Try getting into the more positive mood by socializing with optimistic people. The great thing about hanging out with optimistic people is that it's really contagious, and you end up feeling a lot better. Exercise is an excellent option; gets the blood pumping, which means more blood to your vocal cords, which makes for better sound. Not to mention better breathing, and that it releases endorphins which makes for happier people! Smile

teeheeloveyou is so right. At least in my case, she hits the nail on the head. Stress has so many negative effects; throughout the school year I felt so stressed, and to top it off I found it difficult to sing because I felt like I was falling apart. Now that the summer is here and I'm under less stress and more of a loose environment, it's gone! Totally agree with the sleeping patterns thing! I've been going to sleep at 4:00 AM as of late to wake up at 9:00 AM. I find that that throughout the next day I feel like I'm pulling up chest voice and it becomes harder to sing freely because there's a certain tightness present even when not vocalizing! So I'm taking it upon myself to get plenty of good night's sleep to ensure my voice is in healthy shape for when I vocalize. Nothing worse than feeling like you're straining when you've gotten so used to the contrary!
Maybe you remember Jesse's Hesition Equals Tesions, don't you? Also, try to get yourself out of old-day habits. Remember that we always gonna follow a routine but this routine mustn't be necessarily the same every week or every month.

Don't worry. If you are in this path, it's because you trust your voice and you like the way it sounds, also you know where you can get to. So, give yourself some grace. If you are feeling off pitch, forget pitch. Sing with all your heart. Hear how horrible you may be sounding, yet, feel the joy of looking at it in a nice way. Get to know its just a period of your life. You are so much bigger than your voice.

Cheers, man.
