i just hate my tone !!! can it be refined ?
hey guys , i wanted to ask if you can do something about a bad tone , i mean i think i get the right notes , but i just cant stand listening to my voice , i dont think i have a mix sound , if i develop that area will it be better ? , i am just very frustrated with it , is there something i can do about it ?!
The "issue" of you cant standing to listen to yourself is really common. It's just that were not used to hearing our voice that way. The best way that i know of is to record and listen to yourself a lot and getting used to what you sound like. And also theres SO MUCH you can do to get better tone, learning to sing is not just higher notes and a louder volume, its being able to use all of that god-given acoustic space in your head and neck.
The same thing used to happen to me!
THERE IS A WAY!

The tone of your voice is determined by two things. The high of the larynx and the resonator you are using.

For example, if you sing a note in chest voice, but you use the nose istead of the mouth, you´ll have an aweful sound!
If you sing a high note, but you are using the mouth (chest resonator) istead of blending resonances, you´ll sound like you are yelling.

I used to sing in head voice only, and low notes sounded awful.
I used to sing nasal too, and it made me sound even badly.

IF you learn to sing with a neutral larynx, and use the proper resonator for the note you are singing your tone MUST improve.

What's the point of vocal fry?
At first i thought the vocal fry sound is the sound behind the lip roll if you were to open your mouth while doing the exercise, but i went back tot he first technique cd of SS and that's not the case.

:/
its really good for warming up your voice , and it let you go through your bridges smoother , and you can use it while disengaging your digastric muscles , and in general it loosen your voice up
As far as I understand it, the vocal fry sound IS the sound you want behind the lip rolls.. the rolls help you gain power and control. Am I wrong?

Possition of the Larynx - Belt a high note properly. VIDEOS
I would like to know your thoughts on this videos.
Do you agree? disagree? Why?

In both videos the term belt seems to be refering to pull up chest in some cases and mix in others. Brett uses belt to describe pull up chest only, right?

I´ve found some things I´m not familiar with, specially in the second video so I would like to know your thoughts on them.

In this video you find example of singers resonating in the mask(chest, pharyngeal, head), head only, mix of chest and head, nose, throat.
In "our" terms, would it be describing different types of mix? (Except the ones that are just pulled up chest voice.

Thank you VERY much!

XOXO
Thank you for answering!
Did you noticed any things that are against this technique?
For example, in the first video it tells that you should lift your soft palate to "place the voice well".
To me abstract concepts like 'place the voice well' will most of the time mislead people. Lifting the soft palate is a no no really because again it is telling people that they need to do something when the reality is most of the time beginning singers need to STOP doing things and go back to the start and just start making sounds without adding all the junk.

This is something really lacking in almost all other approaches to singing. They approach it from a 'you need to do this this and this' stand point. The approach that really gets a voice working is most often the exact opposite 'you need to stop doing this this and this'.

water and singing...and smokey bars
hi, people ..on every show i performance music, while, i am singing i need too much of glases of water to try to feel beter my troath...and cords, spettialy on smokey bars...i have a question...¿its normal to drink water and water.. in order to feel better my cords while singing ??, how can we deal with this ???.

i hope you can undestand my poor inglish , i am argentain.

thanks very much.

Break through thanks to Shelby Rollins!! :)
Her new video on the female vocal range instantly gave me a new approach to execute that lower range, and instantly added an extra three notes to the bottom of my range, and now i'm at 4 octaves! woot woot!
Awesome!!! =)Congrats!!!!
I know, right?! I didn't really gain any more notes with that technique yet (And I don't have near a four octave range! Shoot, that's crazy! I have I think about 3 octaves, I think, if I'm lucky. lol), but it like instantly made a better blend from my bottomost notes to those that are out of my range. I can just keep singing in vocal fry to like, below a bass' C or something.

Sigh, I still <3 SS!

Edge mix and pharyngeal mix
Im very confused at the relationship between the 2. Is it 2 different style of voice? Or do they combine and produce a voice? Whats the respective role of them in singing? Ive heard that the former is what adds chest into the voice and the later adds loudness and sweetness? Im just confused. THx to any1 who is kind to help me.
Besitos!!
well, in mastering mix, first exercise is lip roll, second Wee, third Mum. Why Mum after wee?

MASTERING MIX OWNERS HELP NEEDED!
I speak spanish and Im studying with mastering mix right now... but there are certain words I do not understand...
Would anybody tell me what does Brett said in the DVD in "Balancing the Resonance cavities"

Im not sure of what "Part in Parcel" means at the beggining, and I don´t know how to writte the word he uses in second 0:22 "The pharyngeal is an opcional ?????? for coloring".
Also in min 00:34 it talks about "Sympathetic vibration of chest voice". Would anybody explain to me what that word means in english? in the context of singing.

Alson in min 1 (Still in balance of resonance cavities) it says
as a "mear" of the resonance felt in the roof of the mouth? (I don´t know if I wrotte that correctly)

There are some other things but I´ll post them later, if Someone answers this questions.

Thanks in advance!!!

God bless you all!
Very little and very badly. Can you tell? lol But, I am good with languages, in general. I speak French much better than Spanish, and English best of all!
